Open Access Publication Funding

The University of Potsdam offers open access funding to support its researchers publishing their original research findings.

This funding, provided by the University of Potsdam and the German Research Foundation (DFG), enables researchers to publish their work in open access journals and books and thereby make their scholarship accessible to a global audience and the broader research community.

For Articles in Scholarly Journals

Beginning in 2025, open access publication funding will be adjusted to align with changes driven by DEAL and other publisher agreements. Under the new model, pre-approved by the relevant university senate committees, authors will be partially responsible for financing open access articles if the publication costs exceed the maximum funding limit of 2,800 € for Gold open access publications and 1,400 € for hybrid open access publications. Detailed information can be found on our intranet page (only accessible on campus or via VPN). At the end of 2025, partial funding amounts and workflows will be evaluated and adjusted if necessary.

The University of Potsdam currently has agreements with the following publishers:

For Open Access Books

Starting in 2025, in collaboration with Open Access Brandenburg (Vernetzungs- und Kompetenzstelle Brandenburg), the University of Potsdam will expand its publication financing to include open access books, including as monographs and edited volumes. To apply for this funding, please submit your application to the Publication Fund for Open Access Monographs of the Federal State of Brandenburg. Be sure to review the funding criteria for the financing of open access books.
