Find Electronic Resources
How to Find E-Resources
1. Find e-books, e-journals and databases in the Online Catalogue
The Online Catalogue/OPAC of the University Library lists licensed e-books, e-journals and databases purchased by the University of Potsdam. By limiting the "material selection" in the advanced search of the Online Catalogue/OPAC you can limit the search results to "online resources" and/or "online periodicals", for example. Search the OPAC for the title of a journal, not for single articles.
2. Find single articles in databases
In many databases you will find the GET IT! button next to the articles, which is used to determine the availability of literature for the Potsdam University Library. If the desired article is available, you can download the full text subsequently.
3. Find e-journals
With the help of the Electronic Journals Library (EZB) you can search for journals (or volumes) that are electronically available at Potsdam University Library and download them.
4. Find literature using bibliographical information
Use the CitationLinker if you have an exact reference. Please enter the bibliographical information as complete as possible in the search form to obtain a precise result. The SFX link service is used to determine the availability of (electronic) literature for Potsdam University Library. Subsequently, you can view and/or download the document.
5. Subject-specific literature research
You can find further information on searching literature for your academic discipline in the subject guides.
6. Open Access
If there is no access via the online catalogue, you can use tools such as the browser plug-in Unpaywallespecially for journal articles, to check whether the desired publication has been republished via Green Open Access. The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) lists quality-assured Gold Open Access journals and provides a direct search for articles published in these journals. The Bielefeld Academic Search Engine (BASE) searches the DOAJ and many other sources. With BASE you can find Gold Open Access materials as well as second publications (Open Access Green).
7. Use e-resources provided by the Staatsbibliothek Berlin
For the time being, the Staatsbibliothek Berlin offers temporary free access to e-books, e-journals and databases. Please check in stabikat+ whether the required e-resources are available. A prior online registration is necessary.
8. Access to licensed e-resources
Access to licensed e-resources is provided within the campus network of the University of Potsdam via WLAN or outside via per VPN. For more information on technical and legal conditions, see Access Electronic Resources.
9. External users
E-resources (e-books, e-journals, databases) that have been licensed for the University Library are unfortunately not available to external users for use from home.
Please use DBIS to search for freely accessible resources: The advanced search ("Erweiterte Suche") allows you to narrow your search down to your subject area and the types of use (i.e. "frei im Web" or "deutschlandweit frei").
For information on how to search for Open Access resources, please refer to no. 5 and no. 6 on how to use e-resources provided by the Staatsbibliothek Berlin.
