New electronic acquisitions: subjects of the Faculty of Arts

The University Library again acquired several e-book packages and databases last year for the subjects of the Faculty of Arts, including the Meiner Philosophical Library, the Sketch Engine corpus platform and analysis software, and two other databases from the Jewish Studies Portal.

The Meiner Philosophical Library was offered for the first time using the EBS (Evidence based selection) model. This means that in 2022 all titles of the e-library were accessible and their usage was documented and made available to the library. Based on this, a decision will be made as to which books will be permanently licensed.

Sketch Engine is an important tool for anyone researching lexicography, corpus linguistics, translation, and (foreign) language learning. Existing large text collections can be searched as well as individual text corpora can be created and examined with the integrated text analysis. Currently, the platform provides access to language corpora in over 90 languages. The University Library has purchased a campus license.

The Jewish Studies Portal, a collection of databases from De Gruyter Verlag, has been joined by two others, the Archiv Bibliographia Judaica and the Singerman Bibliography of Antisemitic Texts in English.
