Chemical research requires particularly well-prepared information on technical literature, substances and reactions. Simply searching for terms in the titles and abstracts of publications does not always lead to useful results. Rather, complex queries are often necessary in which substance properties, reaction types and other conditions are combined. Those complex queries are only possible in specialized databases.
Via the University Library you have access to the chemical subject database SciFinder-n (Chemical Abstracts). Searching this database is much more comfortable than in the previous SciFinder Web. Moreover, SciFinder-n offers extended search possibilities for related fields, such as biochemistry, mineralogy and chemical physics.
To use SciFinder-n you will need to register within the university network using your @uni-potsdam.de email address. If you already have an account for SciFinder Web, it will be also valid for SciFinder-n.
Access and registration via the database information system DBIS
In cooperation with the University Library, Chemical Abstracts offers training courses on the complex functions of SciFinder-n, if necessary also for individual working groups. For more details, please contact the responsible subject librarian, Niklas Hartmann.
